OnePlus Looks at 120 Hz While Xiaomi and Nubia Lean Towards 144 Hz on New Flagships

The last time Blur Busters looked at smartphone displays in particular, we noted that the OnePlus 7T was a phone with a 90 Hz screen, with others looking above and beyond. As of 2020, OnePlus is said to be going yet another step forward with a 120 Hz screen in the upcoming OnePlus flagship, likely to be called the OnePlus 8.

According to their forums, the next display is supposed to be smoother, brighter and offering a number of new features. Liliputing is reporting that Chinese makers Nubia and Xiaomi are looking even further beyond that, hoping to bring in 144 Hz displays in their next smartphones.

The industry seems to be moving higher and higher with smartphone frequencies, with the Razer Phone sporting the first 120 Hz screen, only to be mimicked by many other brands, getting the frequencies up much higher than 60 Hz. The downside is that obviously these screens will consume far more battery.

Not only will the new OnePlus phone support 120 Hz, but also support 1000 nits of brightness, 10-bit colour and MEMC motion smoothing tech that will allow videos to run at 60 or 120 fps by inserting extra frames.

They are also customized AMOLED screens with touch sampling rates of 240 Hz.
