ASUS ROG PG278Q supports 144Hz overclocking for 2560x1440p

The ASUS PCDIY site has a diagram that shows the ASUS ROG PG278Q GSYNC monitor is capable of overclocking to 144Hz during 2560x1440p over DisplayPort. This is great news, for those looking for 1440p options with good motion clarity!  The monitor also supports GSYNC and motion blur elimination (ULMB) options.

    Yea well good luck keeping an average of 144fps at 2560×1440 even with a crossfire, unless you just play cheap games like Counter-Strike.

    Well imo the mode is the better word.. the fps most of the time rather than considering a few fps potholes and easy to render tiny boxed in areas or looking at a wall or floor lol.
    You can use g-sync w/o backlight strobing at 144hz and enjoy the “extra hz” past 120 when your fps swings high in less complex/action parts of your gameplay session (if you have dual 780ti’s on some games/settings for example your ave is around 100fps.. upcoming 800 series year end/next yr who knows in sli).
    AFAIK you can’t use ulmb/backlight strobing past 120hz unless they changed it since lightboost hack mode. I’d like to know for sure if someone knows though.

    LightBoost only works with refresh rates between 100Hz and 120Hz (not the full native 144Hz support) since 3D and LightBoost is designed to work at 100Hz through 120Hz at the moment (e.g. 120Hz results in 2 x 60Hz, for each eye).

    • Yes, many people generally keep monitors for a long time, and this 1440p monitor will be the highest-resolution strobeable monitor. People who buy this model of monitor, will likely keep it past the GeForce 800 and 900 series.

      ULMB supports strobing at 85Hz, 100Hz, and 120Hz on the other GSYNC monitors. Some other brands of strobe backlights now can do strobing at rates as low as 60Hz (e.g. BENQ Blur Reduction). So you can enjoy the zero-motion-blur of 85fps @ 85Hz, since strobing works best at framerates matching refreshrates. The lower the stroberate, the more flicker, though.

      Minimum strbe rates of the various “LightBoost” equivalents
      NVIDIA LightBoost: 100Hz and 120Hz
      NVIDIA ULMB: 85Hz, 100Hz and 120Hz
      EIZO Turbo240: 105Hz thru 122Hz in 1Hz increments
      BENQ Blur Reduction: 60Hz thru 144Hz in 1Hz increments
