BENQ Z-Series With V2 Firmware Included

BENQ released V2 firmware at gaming.benq.com/downloads for Z-Series monitors.
Older Z-Series with V1 firmware do NOT support Blur Busters Strobe Utility.

To get immediate easy compatibility with Blur Busters Strobe Utility (a BENQ authorized 3rd party monitor adjustment utility), you need an XL2420G or newer Z-Series either of:

get-xl2720z-v2
XL2411Z on Amazon
get-xl2420z-v2
XL2420Z on Amazon
get-xl2720z-v2
XL2720Z on Amazon

Monitors obtained from these sources work with BENQ-authorized 3rd party utilities including Blur Busters Strobe Utility.

This is the difference between the BENQ monitor models:
XL2411Z: 24″ budget model, one DVI input, one HDMI input, no DisplayPort.
XL2420Z: 24″, includes S-Switch controller, DVI, DisplayPort and 2 HDMI inputs.
XL2720Z: 27″, includes S-Switch controller, DVI, DisplayPort and 2 HDMI inputs.
XL2420G: 24″, same as XL2420Z but includes G-SYNC.

So, I have not purchased this yet and I am looking to purchase one in the near future, since I’m in the UK will the EU store be stocking the upgraded models too?

  2. jLL says:

Same question here. I am from Germany and have no clue where to purchase one. Would be great to get a fixed one, because buying a unit for flashing is a pain in the ass -.-.

I would also appreciate some info on V2 Monitors in Europe, i also live in Germany also already contacted BenQ Germany via Support email but no response yet. I am on the verge of just buying a V1 Monitor + the MSTAR unit to upgrade, i kind of lost hope in seeing an announcement in the near future about this.

Yes, if you don’t mind paying a tad extra, you can always buy a V1 monitor and the MSTAR unit, and get Version 2 that way without waiting for BENQ, too.

On Amazon Germany, you can find the BENQ XL2720Z, the BENQ XL2420Z and the BENQ XL2411Z. At this time of the writing (March 2014), these are likely still V1 units.

For the MSTAR unit, you can obtain it DIY Firmware V2 Upgrade page. Then now you’ve got a V2 unit!

Let me know how it goes!

      • Juin says:

The only thing that really keeps me from doing that is that i fear that something might go wrong at the time of upgrade or sometime later and then i might not have warranty for the monitor anymore. Do you know if the warranty expires when you upgrade the firmware yourself?

        • Chief Blur Buster says:

The firmware upgrade should not void your warranty, provided you use the official MSTAR ISP unit. The MSTAR ISP unit linked here, is the very same MSTAR ISP that BENQ worldwide headquarters (Taiwan) shipped to me to upgrade my V1 monitor to V2.

          • Juin says:

Well then all my concerns are pretty much gone and i went ahead and bought the 2720Z+ the MSTAR ISP unit, hope everything goes well.

I have sent an email to the BenQ France Customer Service to see if the monitors they were selling through their online shop were bundled with the V2 Firmware, and the answer was no, it’s not the case for the moment.
They said however that the Firmware upgrade can be done if you send the monitor back to BenQ.
I don’t know if this applies to all european branches but this might be the case.
So for the moment I suppose the best option is to get a V1 version along with an MSTAR unit and flash the firmware.

    • Chief Blur Buster says:

This is true at the moment, though this could change over the coming weeks/months.

Currently, only units from BENQ USA’s store (linked above) are guaranteed to ship with Version 2 firmware.

Yes, another option is getting a V1 unit, and upgrade the firmware, via the DIY V2 Firmware Upgrade Instructions, which is easy if you obtain the prebuilt MSTAR ISP. Obtaining the ISP unit may actually be cheaper than shipping the monitor to BENQ for upgrade, unless you are able to drop the monitor off at a local BENQ servicing center.

Is there any way to look at an article number and see if its an version 2? I asked two swedish online-stores and they said it will take some time to get the newer version in stores. I dont want to buy a version 1 and not have any use for the motion blur.

Hi, i’ve been following your website since I discovered lightboost. I finally have the resources to upgrade my monitor. Now that g-sync has come available it has put me in a bind.

    I play CS:GO competitively with a gtx 760 – around 200-250fps consistently

Which would benefit me more? BenQ v2 Firmware w/ strobe utility or G-sync?

I’ve already tried it my nephews ASUS 10% lightboosted monitor and it was already amazing. I play with a low sensitivty @ 1.25, i’m consistently flinging my mouse left and right at pretty high speeds, but I was still able to see a bit of blur if I moved my mouse around too fast.

Will the v2 utility strobe be that much better than 10% lightboost? I haven’t seen g-sync in person, but i’ve seen your articles stating it decreases input lag dramatically, even less than v2 strobe utility?

  7. jLL says:

Is the production generally changing to firmware v2 or is it just Benq USA flashing the monitors themselfs?
So that at least in 3 or 4 months there would be v2 monitors in stores. If not I would look for another solution^^.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Hi
My question maybe not belong here, but still ask, I buy Xl2420Z ( 21/8/2014), not use monitor jet, ask version from BenQ and answer was this”Based on the serialnumber you provide, we can confirmed that this unit is
manufactured in April, therefore its should already have the firmware version
    1.02.”
Is this really firmware version 2??

    thanks anyway

  9. Nimix says:

Hi, I’m about to purchase a XL2411Z and I was wondering where I could get one with a v2 firmware pre installed. It is available on amazon.fr (which would be better for me as I’m French), but doesn’t seem to be available on the european benq store anymore.
Do you have any idea about which firmware should be installed on the one sold on amazon? It’s been a long while since they started installing v2 at factory. Thanks!

  11. Nimix says:

Well I ordered my XL2411Z from Amazon.fr, and the V2 firmware was installed when I got it! So I assume it’s safe to say you can order from major retailers in Europe without fear of getting a V1.
